With a life philosophy revolving around serenity, responsibility and innovation, Katsujiro Iwai established Kansai Paint in the year 1918. Growing up during the Meiji Restoration had imbued him with a sense of wide-eyed ambition. Even today, his life philosophy still guides us in a world of never-ending possibilities.
Although we’re rooted strongly in Japan, we began evolving in the 1960s to share Japanese excellence with the world. After establishing ourselves as a leading player in the international paint and coatings market, we made the move to set up our first foreign operations in Singapore, 1965. From there we moved quickly across Southeast Asia, Asia and then the United States, Europe, Africa and UAE.
Attracted by the prospects of Malaysia’s colourful culture and love of creativity, we founded Kansai Coatings Malaysia Sdn. Bhd. in 2006. This was after our successful acquisition of PAR, the renowned Malaysian brand for decorative paints and industrial coatings. In 2014, we contributed to the fight against Aedes Mosquitoes and Dengue Fever by introducing first anti mosquito paint in malaysia. ALES Anti-MosQ, our mosquito-repellant paint. It has been a bestseller ever since.
In January 2013, we signed a sponsorship deal with the English football club, Manchester United. United’s commercial director Richard Arnold said: “Kansai is the perfect company to partner with Manchester United. Although from two very different industries, they demonstrate many of the same values and qualities we adhere to both on and off the pitch…”
As of 2015, Kansai Paint Malaysia has been established as Kansai Paint Asia Pacific to meet consumer and business demands across the region. Supporting and commemorating the growing market in Malaysia, this name-change signifies a great hallmark in our brand’s history.
